Marmaris evolved from a very small fisherman's village to a world famous summer vacation, yachting resort It has beautiful natural sites and is very close to ancient cities. Climate in Marmaris gives the visitors opportunity to swim in chrystal clear water even in winter time. There are lots of pine trees surrounding the town.
It’s history dates back to 3400 B.C.It is possible to see the evidence of Ion, Dor, Caria, Pers, Macedon, Egypt, Byzantine, Selçuk and Ottoman civilisations. Physkos is the first ancient name of the town and the first residents are Carians.
There is a wonderfull panoramic view of Marmaris day and night from Marmaris Castle, which is said to have been built by Ionians. It was restored during the reign of Alexander The Great and Suleyman The Magnificient.
There are lots of ancient sites in Marmaris.
Physkos(an important trading harbour of Caria),Amos(consists a theatre, temple and statues.During the excavations in 1948,3 different inscription of rental contracts were found which dates back to 200B.C.),Cedrae(called Cleopatra Island.It is believed that Cleopatra and Antonius used to swim here and the sand was brought from Egypt due to the order of Antonius by ships.The ruins of necropolis and Apollon Temple can be seen in the island) are only some of them.
And there are so much to do in Marmaris. It has an amazing night life with bars and discos of all kinds, so many historical and natural sites to visit and very close to other popular touristic areas like Pamukkale, Ephesus, Dalyan Caunos, Bodrum etc.

 TURUNC BEACHES
Turunc's old name Loryma Peninsula the present name Bozburun Peninsula, you can reach Marmaris for 30 minute by bus or boat. Turunc is near the Pine tree covered mountain. Turunc sea, shine while morning light.Turunc has a beatiful cove of Ege. Four stars otels and pensions serve and you can join the blu journey.You can see the tracks of lived civilizations ingreat green forests,mountain villages . The biggest civilization track is "Amos" city ruins. Turunc have big plans for the future.So it known by other countries.And Turunc rewarded by blue flag.Blue flag is a reward that is gave by Europa Environment Education Aware.

Other ancient cities
Other ancient cities that are within the borders of the Marmaris region are as follow:
Amos (Hisarönü-Turunç), Byabassos (Hisarönü), Syma (Bayır Köyü-village), Larymna (Bozburun), Thyssanos (Söğüt), Phoinix (Taşlıca), Loryma (Bozukkale), Kasara (Serçe Limanı-Port), Kedria (Sedir Adası-Island), Euthena and Amnistos (Karacasöğüt).
Including Shyskos, all these were Carian cities. However, little remains from these cities, with there being no more than some walls and ruins of castles.

ICMELER BEACHES
Icmeler is famous district of Marmaris with its great beach.Although Icmeler has small beach,it prefered by the people.Because Icmeler has big holiday centers and buildings.You can reach Marmaris in 10 minutes by shared taxi.If you are interest in diving,windsurf ..etc sports, Marmaris will take you. Icmeler is more silent than Marmaris.Icmeler have lots of alternatives fo eating,drinking and fun.
